HISTORY

Since 1994, the West Coast Electric Power Trust has been elected from the local community. The elected trustees have held the shares in Westpower on behalf of electricity consumers of the West Coast.

The current trustees who represent the consumers are:

Dom O'Sullivan - M.N.Z.M Reefton (Chairman)
David Robinson - JP Kowhitirangi (Deputy Chairman)
Kevin Brown - QSM Greymouth
Frank Wall - Hokitika
Ian Hustwick - Hokitika
Maureen Pugh - Hokitika

In 1999 Westpower sold off its electricity generation assets as required by the Electricity Industry Reform Act 1998.

At this time Westpower restructured its activities to provide for the distribution of electricity through its West Coast electricity lines infrastructure. Part of this restructure was the move to transfer all staff into ElectroNet Services Ltd - the company formed in 1997 to provide electrical contracting services to Westpower.

While it was envisaged at this time that Westpower and ElectroNet would concentrate solely on the local network, it soon became obvious that wider opportunities existed both inside and out of the region.
