COMPANY PROFILE

After the reforms of 1999, Westpower's Board of Directors led the company through a period of consolidation, and focussed primarily on operating and maintaining the more than 2000 km's of lines in its region.

Transpower New Zealand is responsible for transmitting electricity into all regions in the country through the national grid. Line companies, such as Westpower, are responsible for the distribution of electricity from Grid Exit Points (GXP's).

In the Westpower region, the GXP's are located at Reefton, Dobson, Greymouth, Atarau, Otira, Kumara and Hokitika. One of the key issues for local consumers is making sure that there is a secure supply into these GXP's, and it is this security that Westpower and Transpower have been able to work jointly on, with some success.

Westpower plays an important role in advocating on behalf of West Coast consumers. In recent years Westpower has had a major role in lobbying for the upgrading of transmission capacity into the region.

The Westpower Board has a key focus on ensuring that the structure of the Group provides a sound base for continuing its proud tradition of maintaining electricity assets on behalf of West Coaster's.
